25 March 2010 - Phyllis Furumoto Listen to this show History. We think of history as a collection of information and facts. In essence, history is one perspective of movement that is captured by the writer or storyteller. What carries the energy of the story? What is the purpose of telling the story? Is there a motivation behind the history? What does history give the reader/ listener? These are all questions that are alive and well in our community and in our society. Perhaps the question with the most irony is this one: How much can we learn from hearing a story or reading history? How does the learning affect our behavior? With all of these questions, Phyllis summarizes her experience with the history of this lineage and practice. She also shares the story of Mikao Usui as she would in a First Degree Class.
18 March 2010 - Donna Stetser, Joyce Winough and Collene Delaney Listen to this show Two years ago I was preparing to go to Japan with several other Reiki Masters and students to see if traveling in and around Kyoto would be beneficial for their depth of understanding Reiki and the practice. The result was "Yes!" and I remembered this as I was preparing this series of interviews. Three of the group were here this week and we had an opportunity to reconnect to the energy of the journey, to have insights of what we experienced, and to share special moments of the time in Japan.
4 March 2010 - Hawayo Takata Listen to this show In keeping with the flow of our discussion of the oral tradition, this program contains a portion of Mikao Usui's story as told by Hawayo Takata. There is an introduction by Phyllis Furumoto. In the next weeks, Phyllis will be joined by Paul Mitchell and other Reiki students in talking about the history, the tradition of oral tradition and what its application is to the history as told by Hawayo Takata, and how the question of truth and veracity is addressed within each individual.
25 February 2010 - Donna Stetser and Lida Perry Listen to this show Oral tradition often is on the borderland of the mysterious. Sometimes because it is illusive. What is value does oral tradition have in a world that is filled with everyday information? Is it possible to pass on the value of something that, ironically, has no words to explain? And sometimes because oral tradition takes us into the mysterious world of energetic lineage, communication, and ancient knowledge. During this program, there is a 5 minute recording of Hawayo Takata telling two short stories. This recording is repeated at the end of the show so the listener can hear it again after listening to the discussion between Donna, Lida, and Phyllis.
18 February 2010 - Phyllis Furumoto Listen to this show The show this week has not worked out. As the ideas for the show have appeared, the ingredients were not there. And I, Phyllis, has not had the energy to "make it work." I thought of selecting a show from the past years but this would not have been in the flow of the programs that I have in my mind and heart to give you. Then I thought I could talk for an hour about oral tradition but this also felt contrived and did not suit me. So I decided to trust your willingness to give me a week to put the next shows together for you that have come out of my musings for this one. So next week, there will be a show! And the following weeks of March our theme will be history. We will flow into history from oral tradition. I want to face up to some of the hard questions that arise when oral tradition meets history; such as "What is the truth?" Until next week, Phyllis Mamta Nanda, a listener from England has opened a facebook only for listeners of the radio show! This seemed like a great idea. Check it out!
11 February 2010 - Chris Bell Listen to this show Chris Bell is a neighbour of mine in Green Valley, Arizona. She prepared herself as best she could for her First Degree. One of the ways she likes to prepare is to read books! In the 18 months of preparation, she did not read but waited for the timing of her class. Her sharing oral tradition as a life experience and a new way to look at learning and teaching is lovely. This exploration took us to looking at some of the ways oral tradition is present in our daily life.
4 February 2010 - Phil Morgan Listen to this show Phil and Phyllis engage each other in speaking about the value of oral tradition in the practice of Reiki, in personal relationships, and in balancing the computer driven communication that we all share. What is oral tradition as we know it now? How can we use the various means of communication in our world today to support oral tradition? Where are the limitations? How can we keep this traditional means of building relationship to the mystery that is inherent in our world?
28 January 2010 - Maureen Pua'ena O'Shaughnessy Listen to this show Maureen's name has an air of mystery about it. Where does her middle name come from? Is it a spiritual name? And how did a lass with such an Irish name come to Hawaii? These questions and more will be the focus of our exploration of spiritual lineage in this interview. As in the last interviews, lineage and spiritual lineage has many aspects and threads that move through our lives. In Hawaii, the hula is much more than entertainment for the tourists. It is an oral tradition and spiritual practice whose spirit echoes what our practice is striving to teach us. Maureen is full of humor, wisdom, and the understanding that comes from her practice of hula and of Reiki.
21 January 2010 - Kate Jones Listen to this show Wanja Twan once spoke to me about the royal families of Europe being a kind of spiritual lineage. This was in the days when I was trying to understand about my duties as the lineage bearer or Grand Master, the successor to Hawayo Takata. In this exploration of spiritual lineage I found it fortunate to have Kate visiting from England. I asked if we could explore this notion of royal families, spiritual lineage, and the duties of a lineage bearer. Our conversation went from this to exploring the nature of Reiki and organizations, the transitions that are occurring for the Reiki Association of the UK, and our personal journeys.
14 January 2010 - Hira Barbara Reid Listen to this show "We are One"! I remember thinking 30 years ago that this was some airy-fairy idea! In this interview, Hira Reid, a Reiki student of 25 years, assists me in seeing the reality and truth of "being one" with all mankind and the divine. Just as Mikao Usui was a seeker who found and experienced the truth, Hira, weaves the lineage teachings and practices of Reiki, Siddha Yoga, Genealogy and Mitochondrial DNA testing to seek, find the truth and experience the meaning of the "External Thread of Oneness". In reality we are all related to "Mitochondrial Eve", the clan mother who lived in Africa over 200,000 years ago and, therefore, we are all one.
7 January 2010 - Catherina Severin Listen to this show Catherina is a Reiki master and a hypnotherapist. Her work as a hypnotherapist lead her to Life Between Lives spiritual regressions, the work of Michael Newton. After reading a collection of these case studies, I have wanted to engage Cat in a conversation about spirit, spiritual lineage, and the purpose of our practice. This was a perfect opportunity! The result is a stimulating provocative conversation about the presence of spirit and the spirit realm in our practice of Reiki. Is there a pattern that is being created that has been many times in the universe? What is the purpose of the spiritual lineage? Is it respectful to acknowledge and call the spiritual lineage into the space of a class or a treatment? We covered many questions and are left with trust in our practice and our spiritual realm.
31 December 2009 - Phyllis Furumoto Listen to this show The last day of 2009, complete with a full moon and a blue moon! Phyllis shares an overview of her life, how the year followed the I Ching reading that she had last January 1, and the thoughts of the moment. Through her experiences and questions, Phyllis opens the door for listeners to look back on their lives and the events that have brought their next steps. She speaks about spiritual lineage and each of us being the "point of the spear" for our family's lineage. At the end, Phyllis leads a Reiki Treatment with a meditation. The music is from Plinio Cutait (Brazil) on the album, Egregoria. Rick Bockner comes in after the show's end with "Fragments of Perfection. " Happy New Year from Phyllis to all of you, perfect as you are!
24 December 2009 - Marta Getty Listen to this show Happy Birthday, Hawayo Takata! This is the 109th anniversary of Hawayo Takata's birth on the island of Kauai! At the beginning of the show, Marta recalls the experience of meeting Hawayo Takata in 1980 (shortly before her 80th birthday), impressions of Takata Sensei as a master and person, and how this meeting touched Marta's life. Then she shares her reiki experiences of sending and receiving distant Reiki treatments. This is a method that is given in Second Degree and over the years, provides students with extraordinary experiences. These experiences become part of the "real" world and the next step is taken. This step is the conscious exploration of healing ourselves and our family within.
10 December 2009 - Elizabeth Valsala Listen to this show As a dedicated Reiki practitioner and master, Elizabeth brings to the listener many different experiences of treatment. Her sense of humor as well as her commitment to listening are great assets to her practice in treating others. 3 December 2009 - Sholpan Primbetova Listen to this show Here is a woman with a mission! Sholpan had the opportunity to attend university in New York City and could not refuse this. She left her young son and her native Kazakhstan for two years to attend university, receiving her MSW (Master of Social Work) this year. As fortune would have it, she was offered a position in Almaty, Kazakhstan and is looking forward to using Reiki in many ways. She wants to make a difference in her country and has the potential to be one of the movers of social education. Reiki has changed her life and she has the dream to offer this to others through treatments. We will come back to her in a year or so and see what has happened. In the meantime, share her dreams. Perhaps you have an experience to offer her in support!
26 November 2009 - Carlos Sanchez Listen to this show A member of the master community in Argentina, Carlos has been involved in the conversations of money and the practice of Reiki for the last 14 years. The conversations have lead the participating masters into deep personal sharing and a way of accepting that each of them also must do what is necessary for themselves. Not always in agreement and not always knowing the answers, the use of money in daily life as well as a part of the system has given this community a richness of relationship.
12 November 2009 - Bonnie Barker Listen to this show Money, Money, Money! Sometimes it seems like the most elusive thing that we have in our lives. The acquisition of money can be a challenge, a puzzle, and a gift of personal development on all levels. Bonnie shares candidly with us her ups and downs of money in all of its dimensions. Many of us can empathize with her as she tells her stories. And as all Reiki stories go, there is a happy ending!
19 November 2009 - Nur Stepanova Listen to this show In our conversations about money, the topic of countries outside of the "West" arises. Nur does not represent the Russian experience but as a long time student of Reiki from Russia her perspective gives us a glimpse of differences and similarities. The element of money has been a challenge that has been well met in this community. Because of her knowledge of English and her willingness to serve others, Nur was one of the first interpreters in Russia for the masters who came from the outside to teach Reiki. She has participated in many workshops and events through the years. Her history and passion for Reiki is a platform from which she shares her view point of money as an element of the practice.
5 November 2009 - Rosina Wiltshire Listen to this show Today we are shifting to the element of money. In the past, having money as a clear element of a system that included healing and spirit was controversial at the best! Rosina's experience of money in her life is one of abundance and care. It was not that money would "fly out of the sky" but money was a gift that if cared for, it would multiply. Her matter of fact nature and clarity of thought challenges many of the assumptions that have been made by some of us growing up.
17 December 2009 - Karen Johnson Listen to this show From the snowy and cold north of Canada, Karen is having one of those times where many of the elements have interconnected through her. Money, spiritual lineage, and treatment are the obvious ones, but as we explore deeper this is the interaction of all of the elements together. Karen's vocation is teaching. She finds out that treatment, both giving and receiving, can also be a way of giving and receiving teaching.
29 October 2009 - Phyllis Furumoto Listen to this show In the last 30 years Phyllis has had many experiences with initiation, the element of the system and an element of being human. What does Initiation mean to a human being? Where does initiation fit in our modern society and understanding of the way things work? Why do they need to be secret? How did the initiations come to us from Mikao Usui? All these questions are a path of learning within the practice of Reiki.
22 October 2009 - Aleema Fontaine Listen to this show In traveling through different cultures, I have experienced the difference in how people integrate their Reiki practice and the ideals of Reiki. Aleema has shared Reiki in three distinctive cultures and her awareness of the similarities and the differences allows us to understand the bigger picture of initiation, its place in our lives, and how initiation can touch us. We also shared stories of initiations which brought us to the power of recognition as a part of the initiation. Mystery, Mystical, Magic. These are all words that have been used to describe or explain the initiation experience. How do you describe your own? An interesting question for all of us.
